The Young Ireland Programme (established in 2005) exists to develop the communication skills and broaden the horizons of people in the early stages of their working lives. Through discussion and dialogue, the personal testimonies of inspiring speakers, and the delegates' own presentations on questions of 'current interest or controversy', the programme helps to build confidence, stimulate debate, and increase awareness of the world around us.
It has become a Young Programme tradition that the Ireland event is held in Scotland. Twice a year – in January and June – delegates fly into Glasgow to be whisked off to a hotel for three days of our hallmark blend of debate, discussion and thought-provoking speakers away from the demands of every day life. The January event runs concurrently with an annual Young Scotland and Northern Ireland Programme.
All Young Ireland Programmes are held at Western House Hotel in Ayr, South Ayrshire, Scotland. Situated on Scotland's famous Ayr Racecourse, in the heart of Robert Burns country, the four-star establishment celebrates
its location and heritage, with all of its rooms named after famous racecourses.
There is a regular, reliable rail service to and from Ayr and the station is less than five minutes by taxi or a 12 minute walk from the hotel.
The hotel is an hour or so away from Glasgow Airport and courtesy transport is provided for all delegates to and from the hotel/airport. More information on travel and recommended flights is provided before each Programme.
